First Baptist Church of Blowing Rock

Harvest Day 2018

Sunday, October 14, 10:00am

As always, our Annual Harvest Day promises to be very special!!

When Harvest Day was started in the mid 1950's, many of our summer residents would leave in early October for the winter. As a celebration before they left, the church decided to have a huge dinner on the grounds with everyone in the community invited. They also instituted a "Harvest Day Offering" to help the church with it's finances during the winter months, when attendance was down.

Through the years, the makeup of Blowing Rock and the church has changed. These days our Winter months, with all of the snow activities, are just as busy as the summer. While we still have many summer residents that leave in the fall for the winter, the church now has a stable, year round attendance and ministry. We still take up a special "Harvest Day" offering but instead of supplementing the budget, we use this special offering for projects around the church. In the past the Harvest Day offering has helped us purchase new vans, fund our worship center stage and sound renovations, support our missions school in the Dominica Republic, and assist in the cost of painting and updating the main education hall, the church office, installing new lights in the worship center and new signage around the facility.

On this special day we will start off with our Worship Service at 10:00am and then the other highlight of the day is our "Dinner on the Grounds". We ask everyone to bring a side dish and a dessert and the church provides the meat, drinks, and paper goods. We fill every room in the church with tables as well as setting up two tents outside to accommodate the crowds. Harvest Day is the "KING" of all "covered dish" fellowships and if there is one thing that Baptists have mastered it is "Dinner on the Grounds". You will be able to sample some of the best desserts that the high country has to offer as well as enjoy some great fellowship. This meal is a great opportunity for folks from the church to fellowship and get to know each other better. Visitors and Guest are welcome and everyone is encouraged to invite a friend. Since we must set up the entire church to accommodate the meal, we will have no other activities, small groups or Sunday School classes that morning. Mark your calendar now and help us get the word out about this very special day in the life of First Baptist.
